JW Anderson SS20 – British Suburban Youthfulness explored

01.04.2020 | Blog , Fashion | BY:

London-based luxury fashion brand JW Anderson recently released it’s Spring Summer 2020 Campaign for both its Men’s & Women’s collections with strikingly soulful imagery shot by photographer & filmmaker Tyler Mitchell.

Styled by Benjamin Bruno, the campaign hints slightly at the theme of the crossroads between tradition and innovation which was previously explored in the SS20 Women’s show. A cast of models from previous campaigns with included street casted faces are pictured in a light-hearted manner. They manage to  highlight Mitchell’s signature style while staying true to the designer’s playful aesthetic as colourful backdrops and props like a giant oversized tricycle were implemented as signifiers of British suburban youthfulness.

Seagulls and nautical stripes: JW Anderson x Uniqlo SS18

10.04.2018 | Fashion | BY:

For SS18, JW Anderson x Uniqlo looked to the Brighton seaside for a flavour of 1950s nostalgia. The results are classic British summer. Nautical t-shirts get a fashion twist courtesy of bias cut detail, linen summer dresses in chalky blues are easy holiday-wear and seagull-print jumpers are a nod to the classic seaside soundtrack. The latest collection brings a fresh, breezy update to the silhouettes and styles offered for JW Anderson x Uniqlo debut collection.  There’s also the addition of covetable denim bucket hats (an essential seaside-prop).

Available from April 20th in selected stores and online

The New Versus Versace

16.05.2013 | Fashion , Twin Life | BY:

Last night the new Versus Versace was launched in New York with an unconventional fashion show. Creative Director Donatella Versace and J.W. Anderson were visible from backstage where they prepared the models, while live performances from Angel Haze, Dead Sara, as well as Twin favourite, Grimes, intercut the runway. The whole event was interactive, streamed live, uploaded to Instagram.

Donatella Versace commented that the event was about bringing together everything she loves. “This mix of music and fashion captures the essence of Versus Versace, a label for a new global tribe,” she says. The collection itself plays with the original Versace DNA, reworking it into new pieces with sharp silhouettes and iconic motifs. With collaborations and limited edition pieces, Donatella Versace hopes to make this a new home for fresh talent and creativity.

J.W. Anderson is just one of the first guest designers who will, in turn, show us their take on the Versus Versace spirit. “The idea behind the collection was about a modern, sharp, Versus Versace, with a focus on the shared wardrobe,” says Anderson, “a man in a woman's wardrobe, and a woman

in a man's”. The result is pieces that toy with gender and sexuality, pieces that should be worn with an attitude of fearlessness. The capsule collection will be available online from June 15, in addition to exclusive behind the scenes footage of the making of the collection.

J.W. Anderson x Topshop

15.02.2013 | Blog , Fashion | BY:

J.W. Anderson started his eponymous label in 2008, but it wasn’t until Autumn Winter 2011 that he created his first capsule collection for women. Fast forward a year, last fashion week to be exact, and his collaboration with Topshop was released to the world. After the great success of his high street debut, this fashion week sees J.W. x Topshop return for Spring Summer 2013. His signature styles and pieces are still evident, but have been given new life in more futuristic fabrics and muted hues.

“This collection was more about youth cultural groups. The girl has evolved. It’s about carrying over the idea of iconic pieces that can be worn over and over and re-working staple looks from the J.W. Anderson wardrobe,” says the designer.

Evolving from the previous collection, key pieces such as the kilt and motif jumpers are not only reworked in different fabrics but given a more laid back, modern twist. Expect neoprene and vinyl in a pale lilac and beige pleated midi skirts as well as Harrington jackets. A simple gingham or striped shirt, polo tee and duffle bag are all branded with the J.W. logo and will be seen on many at Somerset House this week.

J.W. Anderson x Topshop Spring Summer 2013 launches today in selected Topshop stores and online.
