Meet The Female Ottolenghi: Bethany Kehdy

03.11.2016 | Culture | BY:

Described by Ottolenghi as the next champion of Middle Eastern food, Lebanese chef Bethany Kehdy made waves when she took up a residency at Carousel in Marylebone earlier in 2016.  Now she’s back, and ready to serve up fresh flavours in a takeover of one of East London’s trendiest restaurants, Jago.

Born in Houston to a Texan mother and Lebanese father, Kehdy spent much of her childhood in Lebanon where she experienced the atrocities of the civil war. When her father moved her family to safety in the mountains, Kehdy was exposed to nature in its rawest form, and she spent much of her time watering orchards and working on the harvest. It was here that she first developed her culinary abilities, learning to make traditional dishes from her grandmother and aunties.

She has since developed an international following, and has released an award-winning cookbook ‘The Jewelled Kitchen’. In her latest London pop-up, Kehdy will bring a fresh syntax of flavours and spices to guests over five courses. With a menu that includes sour cherry kebab nests, whipped hummus with duck awarma and tamarind & fenugreek mackerel khoresh, this is the must-have ticket for foodies: get them while they’re hot.

Tables available from 6pm until 9.30pm, from November 7th through 11th, book here.

Twin Picks: Leather

03.10.2013 | Fashion | BY:

Leather is becoming a more favoured fabric than before, finding itself in many different hues and forms – the leather tee is now a wardrobe staple of sorts. Last season, the skinny leather trouser was a key player, but for your 2013 update go slouchy and loose. The conventional leather jacket is an autumn winter favourite of course, but take this sport luxe version as this season’s interpretation. So when shopping for your new season wardrobe, take inspiration from Twin’s top picks of AW13’s material of choice.

Zadig & Voltaire Leather Sydney Overalls in Black, £587, & Gestuz Women’s Alina Leather Top In Baroque Rose, £80,

Derek Lam Leather skirt, £ 765.00, & Just Female Quilted Leather Bomber Jacket, £270,

Twin Picks: Camo

09.09.2013 | Fashion | BY:

One print that made its way onto a catwalk or few back in February was camoflage. The military pattern was seen at Micheal Kors and Christopher Kane emblazoned on classically cut skirts, trousers as well as accessories. The print has connotations of 90’s street dressing but this season it’s matured, and struts it’s stuff in a much more elegant fashion. So instead of blending into your surroundings, get any of these Twin picks and go marching into AW13.

MSGM Camouflage Mohair-blend Jumper, £235, & Nike Roshe Run Print, £70,

Christopher Kane Camo-print wool mini skirt, £495, & Whistles Camo Jaquard Trouser, £175.00,

Twin Picks: Resort 2014

12.06.2013 | Blog , Fashion | BY:

It’s that time of year when resort collections start flooding in and designers show us their creations for the in-between season. With so many interesting lines to pick from, we give you the top four that made our cut…

From Acne’s free-flowing fabrics inspired by overgrown gardens, to Chloe’s over-sized silhouette, Resort 2014 has chosen to ditch the tighter figure. Riccardo Tisci took nuances from previous collections and Alexander Wang for Balenciaga took inspiration from the house’s signature billowing shape to create his latest line. All four of these designers have given us plenty to look forward to the seasons ahead.

Clare Waight Keller’s latest collection for Chloe has what she calls “barefoot attitude,” pieces that have no need for heels. This relaxed aesthetic was seen through the ultra-wide legged trousers that came in varying lengths and colours. Crisp shirts were tucked neatly in place, trenches became gillets and soft layers took center stage.

Ricardo Tisci blurred both the feminine and the masculine in this collection, contrasting dense cotton fabrics such as twill and denim with materials such as silk jersey and chiffon to show opposing elements. Layers were key, creating a Holly Hobbie rag-doll look with a-line shapes, full skirts and wide pajama pants.

For Acne’s Resort 2014 line, Jonny Johansson created a more subdued collection compared to the sometimes-experimental garments seen on his catwalks. Oversized, slouchy silhouettes were created by ikat pajamas, satin dresses and biker jackets. Although inspired by Johansson’s garden, the collection featured less green, more tangerine, white and a plethora of rich, royal blues.

Having travelled to Getaria, the birthplace of Cristóbal Balenciaga to look for inspiration, Alexander Wang found just that in the house’s archives. Keeping to a muted palette of white, grey and black, Wang played with shapes and length, introducing short-shorts, a theatrical bolero and shredded plastic bucket hats to the Balenciaga’s anthology.

Twin Picks: Backpacks

05.04.2013 | Blog , Fashion | BY:

Ladylike handbags may be one trend the fashion pack are utilising this spring, but we still have a thing for bags of the hands-free variety. These grunge era accessories have been re-vamped for SS13 even lending themselves to the chicest of outfits. Its not just their care-free attitude that we love, its that you can wear them with essentially anything, making them our investment bag of choice this season.

Designers are creating backpacks in all shapes and sizes, but these are the four that made the Twin cut.

Deux Lux Empire State Backpack, £106.33, & Peter Jensen Rabbit Ear Backpack, £102,

Danielle Foster Tasha Backpack, £460, & Moschino Quilted Backpack, £1125.54,

Twin Picks: And Other Stories

26.03.2013 | Blog , Fashion | BY:

& Other Stories is the latest venture from the Swedish company that gave us COS and H&M. “Today, a woman with a love for fashion creates her own style,” states the new brand, which is why they are providing us with the ingredients to make up our own.

What first attracted us to the site was the fact that after a few moments browsing, you might as well be lusting after someone else’s streetstyle snaps. Using a blog-like layout makes the site and inevitably the brand more accessible. Just like bloggers, who have strong opinions but don’t necessarily force those on to you like a biannual glossy might, & Other Stories is doing the same. Trends are not there to be followed; they are simply guidelines according to the Stockholm and Paris design teams.

The Regent Street store is welcoming, modern and chic. With more products that are not on the site, we urge you to pop down and have a browse. What you are bound to notice is the quality of each piece. The garments are designed to last the story of your lifetime, not just the current season.

These are Twin‘s favourite pieces from their current spring/summer 2013 collection.

Asymmetric Layered Dress, £39 & Cuff Chain Earrings, £12

Jaquard Trousers, £65 & Leather Sandals, £79

Twin Picks: High Tops

01.02.2013 | Blog , Fashion | BY:

Sport lux is going to be one of the big themes this spring, although filtering through in seasons past it’s been building to a crescendo of sorts. But be warned, with this trend it’s easy to get sloppy, and it can cause many a wardrobe malfunction. Opt to wear your high tops with regular staples, those go-to pieces we all love such as leather trousers and over-sized blazers, and keeping to muted colours allows you to be a little more playful with the rest of your outfit. Here are Twin’s favourite trainers to run around and play in.

Saint Laurent Malibu high top china blue trainers, £320,
Marc By Marc Jacobs 70mm Cut Out Calfskin High Top Sneakers, £330,

Maison Martin Margiela High Top Trainer, £401.21,
Nike Dunk Sky High Olive Wedge Trainers, £85,

Twin Picks: The Beanie

18.01.2013 | Blog , Fashion | BY:

The nineties revival brought back dungarees, and most recently the scrunchie, yet one love affair that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere is our obsession with the beanie. This simple accessory transcends styles and is worn by hip Dalston creatives as well as the fashion-forward West London commuters. You can find them at a large variety of retailers in rainbows of colours and a plethora of materials, with bold slogans or embellished with crystals, but these are the archetypal hats that caught Twin‘s attention.

Somewhere Nowhere Embellished Beanie Hat, £32, & The Kooples Knitted Hat, £60 £30,

Ragged Beanie By The Ragged Priest, £15, & The North Circular Travelling Cable Beanie , £95,
