Dreeams can come true

For Resort 2017, Chanel staged a sartorial carnival on the streets of Cuba, which was both heart and home to Ernest Hemingway for many years. So it seems only fitting that the writer’s great-granddaughter, Dree, takes the collection out for a spin on the open road.

Work-Shop

04.07.2014 | Fashion | BY:

Work-Shop is a designer superstore curated in collaboration with creative magazine Oh Comely. The pop-up’s purpose is to encourage people to learn more about hand made processes; to introduce to the public a variety of exciting and sometimes undiscovered independent brands, giving us a more soulful lifestyle alternative to the many mass produced items currently available on the high street. Founder Michelle Oh, a jewellery designer with her own eponymous brand, temporarily moved her studio into the shop and not only can you find her creations displayed in the store, but you can take part in jewellery DIY classes to make your own. You’ll also find designer talks hosted by the people behind the brands involved, such as Draw In Light, London Tea Club, Elizabeth Dunn, Espergaerde, Project 104 Swimwear, Wickhams Concern plus more. Full brand list available here.

Twin‘s Fashion Director Celestine Cooney visited the boutique for one of the Work-Shop classes and designed her own ring (below). To find out more and to take part, head to facebook.com/work.shop.

Work-Shop is located at 6 Newburgh Street, London W1F 7RT until 1st August.

2011 Rewind: Fashion

05.01.2012 | Blog , Fashion , Thoughts , Twin Life | BY:

In the second part of our look back over the past year, Twin’s fashion team name their stars of 2011 and who to watch out for in the next 12 months…

Celestine Cooney – Fashion Director

My favourite show of 2011 was Simone Rocha Spring/Summer 12. I fell in love with the whole collection, it felt so modern and was executed so perfectly with the combination of traditional lace with sheer tulle and rubber. The use of colour in Spring/Summer 12 was also really inspiring with bright pink and a lucid green popping in a collection of black and white.

I think Simone Rocha is a star in the making. I find what she is doing and the collections she is producing, incredibly exciting.

Naomi Miller – Fashion Editor

I loved the Celine collection for Spring/Summer 2012. It was very chic, the couple of knitwear pieces they did were beautiful and so innovative.

Obviously it’s been an incredible 2011 for Sarah Burton, but I’m also stoked for Olivier Theyskens for putting Theyskens’ Theory on the map this year. I also loved the Thomas Tait show – and loved the styling with the sneakers!

world’s coolest celebrities and models. So what happened when the Japanese photographer asked some of them to pose for a book of nudes? Playful, slick and downright hot, Naked is a girl’s own take on Helmut Newton’s glamazons.

Twin asked Sarai to tell us a bit about the project:

How did the book come about?
One very famous Japanese editor, Masa Sugatsuke approached me to make an all-nude book in June 2009. That’s how the project started.

A lot of the women in the book are models – how did shooting Naked feel different to a normal fashion shoot?
Shooting subjects naked is very different from a normal fashion shoot. There’s no clothes anyway. I shoot with a very minimal team when I shoot for Naked. I focused on our privacy and intimacy for this project.

How did being a female photographer affect the kind of nude images you ended up with?
Just adding one more spice for my style and name, that’s all.

A lot of the photos are in black and white and project a strong and tough take on femininity, was that on purpose?
It is on purpose and it’s my style.

How did you go about approaching people like Alice Dellal and Twin’s own Celestine Cooney?
I have shot with Alice Dellal before and we knew each other. Same with Celestine Cooney. We are friends and so it’s a very comfortable situation.

What’s been most people’s reaction to the book?
People just love it. And so many people want to take off their clothes for me now. It’s brilliant!

Is there going to be a follow-up to Naked?
Yes, I have already started shooting for Naked II. I have photographed 10 people including Janice Dickinson.

Mari Sarai’s Naked goes on show at the Blackall Studios, EC2A 4QS from September 14 – 20 and at Doors Showcase, EC2A 3DU September 21 – October 13.

LFW Flashback: Ashish

26.02.2010 | Blog , Fashion | BY:

Big up Twin Fashion Director Celestine Cooney for her styling at the Ashish show. We think she may be the one responsible for the model’s beanie hats, shades and pastel streaked hair. Nice one Celestine for bringing a bit of grunge into the vibrant and sequinned realm Ashishistan.
