Declarative Language unfolds at Amici Studio as an investigation of care entwined with artistic practice. Co-curated by Kelly Jessiman and Alexis Soul-Gray, the exhibition gathers artists whose practices have been shaped by the sustained, intimate labour of raising neurodivergent children. The show explores how the experience of caregiving, specifically for children with access needs, reshapes an artist’s creative process and “language”. Ongoing conversations between the artists and mothers formed a network grounded in mutual recognition. Insisting on intervention, these practices evolve alongside care rather than in spite of it, where the act of making is also an act of co-regulation.
