Denim Tears drop 5th Quarter, a love letter to basketball

The collection looks at the game as more than sport and frames basketball as a space where Black identity has been shaped, celebrated and challenged. It asks what happens if you don’t go pro, if you do, and what it all means when the lights go off.

Founder Tremaine Emory pulls inspiration from legends Rafer “Skip 2 My Lou” Alston and John Thompson Jr. and their impact beyond the court in a style, presence and politics that echoes today.

The collection features Denim Tears staples and honour the overlooked legends of the game. Shorts, zip hoodies, sweatpants that give a nod to vintage athletic wear and adorned with African Mudcloth patterns. A basketball net necklace features alongside a custom Rafer Alston ball and a rework of John Thompson Jr.’s iconic game towels.

5th Quarter is a tribute to the game, those who changed it, and to the stories that begin when the buzzer sounds.

The pop-up lands at Dover Street Market Paris on June 28 and 29. The full collection drops July 4 online and in-store at Africa Diaspora Goods, 176 Spring Street.

5th Quarter Collection will be available online at Denimtears.com
