Joan Fontaine

31.12.2013 | Blog , Culture | BY:

Oscar winning actress Joan Fontaine died in California a week ago aged 96. The star of several thrillers produced by Alfred Hitchcock, and the sister of fellow Oscar winner Olivia De Havilland, she also had major parts in The Constant Nymph, Jane Eyre and Letter from an Unknown Woman.

She played the lead role opposite Laurence Olivier in Hitchcock’s first Hollywood work, Rebecca. Her and her sister had a notoriously difficult relationship, with Fontaine saying to a reporter in 1978, “I married first, won the Oscar before Olivia did, and if I die first, she’ll undoubtedly be livid because I beat her to it.” The pair remain the only siblings to have both won Academy Awards for acting.

Converse Skate Ambassador Pontus Alv had the idea to make a little film about cruising around Paris with a jump ramp and a couple of plates, inspired by 1989 and the Converse CONS CTAS Pro Skate sneakers.

“Back when I was a kid, we all had a jump ramp outside our house. We painted that and our grip tape and expressed ourselves in so many ways. I miss those days and I miss those details,” says Pontus Alv.

Alongside the film is a special edition newspaper also titled, Trocadéro Days. It features photography by Nils Svensson, illustrations by Pontus Alv and interviews with the other Converse Skate Ambassadors that were part of this project. Look out for it in all good Skate stores across Europe.
