Gucci x Dover Street Market

10.06.2016 | Fashion | BY:

Wunderkid Alessandro Michele can seemingly do no wrong. This month, the creative visionary behind Gucci has teamed up with London’s Dover Street Market to launch a limited-edition capsule collection that will be sold exclusively through the Haymarket’s coolest hangout.

This is not the first time the two brands have come together, in fact Gucci and DSM are old flames. Last year the brand opened a shop-within-shop at Dover Street Market in Ginza, Tokyo and has twice taken over Dover Street Market Ginza’s Elephant Room.

To celebrate the collaboration, a limited-edition book about Gucci entitled Epiphany will be launched in London on June 12th. Having sold out in New York, this offers a rare chance to have a copy signed by its creator Ari Marcopoulos – the ultimate coffee table addition.

And what of the collection itself? The new collaboration takes in the full spectrum of menswear staples, from cotton crew necks to pyjama trousers. Each piece is adorned with signature detail and romantic embellishment, in line with the ‘Gucci Garden’ aesthetic. Think a tree design on the back of a shirt, rabbit patches on denim jackets and studded detail. Throughout the capsule collection, the Gucci label has been designed with a red rather than white background, ensuring each piece is denoted as truly unique.

As London Collections: Men kicks off, there has never been a better time to adorn yourself in Alessandro Michele’s finery: purchase immediately.

The limited-edition Gucci Dover Street Market menswear capsule collection will be available from the 12th June at Dover Street Market Ginza, London, New York and Beijing.

Mad About The Boy

07.01.2016 | Fashion | BY:

You don’t have to have Instagrammed Corrine Day’s iconic Kate Moss shoot for The Face to know that youth culture has shimmied around fashion’s dance-floor since time began, throwing shapes and intoxicating every wisened creative as it went. Whilst Joan Didion for Celine may have piqued an interest for a mature, savvy model, really it’s the arresting, intangible power of youth that continues to enthrall the industry. From Friday, London College of Fashion will celebrate this preoccupation in an all-star exhibition Mad About The Boy at the Fashion Space Gallery.

With a timely opening on the first day of London Collections: Men, Mad About The Boy promises to cast a discerning spotlight on the relationship between fashion and beautiful males. If the subject alone didn’t have you intrigued, the fact that it’s curated by SHOWstudio’s Lou Stoppard definitely will.

Thanks to contributions from game-changing designers and creatives such as Raf Simons, J W Anderson, Nick Knight, Meadham Kirchhoff and Larry Clark, the exhibition is set to continue last year’s legacy of mixing fashion and art (did you already forget about McQueen mania?), to great effect. Attendees can expect a sensory experience thanks to audio recordings of designers and photographers discussing their memories alongside editorials, films and select looks from seminal collections.

You’d be mad not to visit.

Open 11th January – 2nd April.

A Suit To Travel In

14.01.2015 | Fashion | BY:

Monday saw Paul Smith present his latest creation, A Suit To Travel In during London Collections: Men. Made from high-twist 100% wool yarn, the AW15 travel suit is constructed with quick recovery crease-resistant cloth that also repels water. Put to the test, Olympic medal-winning athlete Max Whitlock and artists from the National Centre for Circus Arts performed gymnastic sequences to show us what this ensemble can really do. And what a performance it was, we witnessed splits, backflips and many unthinkable moves.

The suit itself has a contemporary fit (called The Soho), that looked just as good on the female gymnast as it did on the men. A limited preview selection of the new Paul Smith Travel Suit is available to purchase from Paul Smith No. 9 Albemarle Street as well as online now, and will be available worldwide from May 2015. Time to start shopping in the men’s department we think.

Gareth Pugh x Selfridges

08.01.2014 | Fashion | BY:

Today sees the opening of the Gareth Pugh Monolith installation at Selfridges. Created with the department store to mark Pugh’s first appearance on the London Collection: Men’s schedule, Monolith takes you on a virtual reality journey, visually immersing you into the world of Pugh’s menswear collections. The two-metre tall chamber is located in Menswear on the store’s first floor, and is ‘part art installation, part futuristic fashion film and part fairground ride’. The project was brought to life by East London creatives Inition, with a soundtrack by Matthew Stone. The installation serves as a preview to the mid-January launch of Selfridges’ first store-wide creative concept of 2014, The Festival of Imagination, which celebrates the world’s most inspiring innovators, creatives and architects.
