Riitta queen of Snow
I first discovered Riitta’s work at a talk by design heroes Will Hudson and Alex Bec from ‘It’s Nice That’.
Bright, young and Finnish, Riitta moved to the UK 8 years ago to study illustration with Ian Wright at the University of Brighton and ended up with an MA in Communication, Art and Design from the Royal College of Art. She has since become one of the most exciting artists around, with a body of work that’s often hilarious, and always whimsical.
Check some of her work on her website: www.riittaikonen.com
I particularly recommend the Snow Flake, Bird & Leaf and Human Nylon Series in which Riitta literally becomes, by way of costumes, what she wants to convey – the images are striking, surreal and silly.

For the Mail Art Series Ritta sent hundreds of dubiously decorated postcards to her friend Margaret Huber from different countries to see how the postal services differed. Amazingly, objects including hair, fish and even a sachet of white powder all reached their recipient.
Be swept over by the delicate, and oh so funny accent of Riitta:
