Even though I’m not engaged (and please God do not let my boyfriend read this) I have already found my wedding dress – which is a big deal, considering my never-ending, maddening (for both my banker and my boyfriend) addiction to dresses.

When I discovered the ‘Sunday Brunch Dress’ site on one of my numerous trawls for fashion on the Internet, I thought I had found heaven. Beautifully twee, funny (the dress descriptions and blog are hilarious) and personal (sizes are based on the owner’s own ‘real’ body), the site urges us to ‘take time to slow down & dress up’.

With beautiful handpicked dresses by Heidi Merrick, Lorick and Keemia, among others, and showcases of work by owner Judy Kou’s favorite female artists – ‘Sunday Brunch Dress’ is truly a Twin kindred spirit.

When I emailed Judy about my dream wedding dress (no, I will not tell you which one it is, my boyfriend might be reading this), I got the sweetest, swiftest reply which finally sealed the deal, and made me fall in love with ‘Sunday Brunch Dress’ for real – quite an achievement for an online shop.

This week sees the release of a documentary film starring one of my all time favourite actresses: Romy Schneider.

The film, called “Henri-Georges Clouzot’s Inferno” tells the story of how the then hotly-tipped French director Henri-Georges Clouzot (‘The Wages of Fear’ and ‘Les Diaboliques’) experimented and failed in putting together his 1964 effort ‘L’Enfer’. Famously given an unlimited budget for the project – Clouzot blew extortionate amounts of cash experimenting on camera tests; and quickly alienated his cast and crew. Filming stopped after just 10 days – so the public never saw the film that was tipped to revolutionise the industry.

The documentary came about when thirty years after Clouzot’s death his widow, Inès de Gonzalez, found herself trapped in an elevator with Serge Bromberg, young film-maker and restoration prodigy. He persuaded her to allow him to access the hours of footage she’s kept hidden away since the disastrous shoot.

‘L’Enfer’ was originally meant to tell the story of a husband, played by a 42 year-old Serge Reggiani, who suffers from bouts of paranoid jealousy over his new bride, 26 year-old Romy Schneider who was then at the height of her stardom. Inspired by kinetics and kaleidoscopic techniques, ‘L’Enfer’, would have been an incredible step forward for the Sixties Nouvelle Vague scene.

Watch these mesmerizing takes of Romy and see the full cinema trailer for ‘Henri-Georges Clouzot’s Inferno’ here.

Becky Smith Interview – 13th November 2009

“I should really wait to spend some quality time with Twin before posting it up, but a little late-night glimpse in a pub recently was enough to warrant a bit of prematurity. A simply beautiful hard back magazine (that is closer to a book) with contributions from the likes of Miranda July, Sir Peter and Rose Blake, Niall O’Brien and The Selby leave me short of excuses not to do everything in my power to scrape together the necessary £15. Intrigued and excited, we spoke to creative director and founder Becky Smith to find out a little more”.
